        Classroom management has caused much concern in society because the way teachers organize what goes on a classroom has an great influence in students achievement and learning. What’s more, teacher’s effectiveness in teaching is evaluated through their ability to effectively manage the classroom and create the classroom climate that is stimulating and positive for language learning. Here are some tips that I understood from TEFL training program to improve classroom management.

        Managing teaching materials-Young learners are curious. In order to arouse teenagers' interests in learning and keep them engaged, choosing appropriate teaching materials is essential. Though teachers may have little choice on the content in following a prescribed textbook in class, effective teachers might come up with ideas on making adjustments or adapting the materials where necessarily. For examples, flashcards, music, videos, and games can be used as scaffolding in listening and reading lessons.

        Managing activities-Young learners are full of enthusiasm and also have great learning potential. However, young learners have limitations on their cognitive capabilities as well as relatively shorter attention spans in comparison to adults. Teachers must design and implement the learning activities appropriately in the aim of better participation. Thus, one of the most important elements, the task demand, should not be neglected. In some cases, routines or familiar settings or formats could help learners to process more difficult information. In this case, teachers can provide pictures or definitions to them, or even bring realia into the classroom. Since most teenagers love adventures, if this is applied in the right way, teachers may find that their students are more motivated to engage in an activity like this.

        Executing the rules-Having the rules is one thing, but implementing them can be something quite different. It is important to bear in mind what should or should not be done in the event of rules being violated. If someone breaks a rule, there needs to be certain consequences. This could take the form of a type of punishment. However, teenagers can be sensitive and penalising them may not always be the best way of dealing with disruptive behaviour. Smart teachers might come up with more mild and acceptable ways of penalising pupils. In most cases, it is a good idea to encourage pupils to obey rules by giving them rewards. The choice of rewards or type of encouragement can depend on what the teacher would like the pupils work on.

        During the four days TEFL training, I learned a good classroom management does not happen overnight. It takes time and effort for teachers to shape disciplines in a class and point students' behaviors into the right directions over various challenges. Teachers should develop their own efficient methods in actual teaching situations when facing different individual learners, which over time, and with more hands-on experience, will become easier to cope with.
